Science Experiments for Kids
As a kid I always loved playing around with little science experiments. Some worked, some didn’t. But either way I had a great time playing around with the cool projects. So here is a couple of my favourite science experiments for kids.Making Glue
Equipment -
- Flour
- Water
- Bowl
- Put the flour into a bowl. The amount you use will dictate how much glue you have.
- Slowly add water and mix it in until you have a smooth paste.
- Use Immediately, or store in fridge
Make Tricky Putty
Equipment -
- Glue
- Liquid Starch
- Mix the glue and liquid starch together in an about 2 parts glue to 1 part starch ratio.
- If the mixture sticks to your fingers, add more liquid starch. If it will not stick to itself, add more glue.
- Have fun with it!
- If you need to, store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Make a Pinata
Equipment -
- A round balloon
- Old newspapers
- Glue
- Scissors
- Crayons or Markers
- Tissue paper or construction paper
- String or yarn
- Goodies to fill the Pinata (Optional)
Method -
- Blow up the balloon and tie it off.
- Tear newspaper into strips about 1 inch wide by 6 inches long.
- Fill a bowl with glue
- Dip newspaper strips in the glue and then completely cover the balloon with them.
- Let this layer dry
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 two more times.
- Cut out a hole on the top to fill the pinata with lollies (if desired) and two smaller holes 3 inches or so to either side of the hole.
- Pop the balloon if it didn’t pop while you were cutting the pinata
- Decorate the pinata by sticking things on and colouring it in, Have FUN
- Feeding the string into one of the smaller holes, and then out the other, you should be able to suspend the pinata for the pinata game!
I know some of these dont really seem like science experiments, but they open up a whole range of experiements. Adjust how many layers are on the pinata or change the flour and water ratios in the glue. I have seen a pinata made so hard, an axe was needed to get the lollies out!
Have fun
